Basic haircare is for everyone. It is not a luxury, but a necessity. You may hear a lot of contradicting opinions from different sources. I'm here to tell you that you don't have to break the bank to maintain that beautiful mane!
My first line of advice is to invest into quality products. I am not a fan of fads or "trending products". I am a fan of products that work for you! Remember you do not have the same hair type as the person next to you. We are all unique and have different hair types, textures and hair histories. Don't forget to read the ingredients in your product that you are getting. Do not just buy a product, but INVEST IN IT Stylist Tip** the first two ingredients in your product should not be water (aqua) and/or alcohol. Reason being is because the first two products listed on the bottle are the two leading ingredients in your product. If water is one of the top listed ingridients that means that you have a watered down, diluted product. If alcohol is in the top two listed ingredients that means the product is very drying to your hair, it may also be stripping your hair of your natural oils, or any color you've had done. Like mentioned earlier everyones hair is different, search around for what products work best for you! I will elaborate in a later post of what products I use and what products I love and recommend.
My second tip is to determine what type of hair you have. Learn your hair, when you do that you will be able to utilize that knowledge for a product that will actually WORK for you. Do you have oily hair? Dry and brittle hair? Damaged hair? Mechanically damaged or chemically damaged? Try not to be ignorant, but be informed about your situation and you will be able to utilize the correct products.
Lastly, Do your research! With the amazing WORLD WIDE WEB we have access to almost all the info we would want and need. Visit webpages of the actual companies, (ex. redken, joico, kenra, sachajuan) read the background of the product, whats their goal, whats the motto, who is the product for, learn your product, learn what you are investing in. A lot of companies have thorough details on all of their products and a plus is that there will also be reviews on the products. We live in a world where we have access to so much information. Utilize the ability to learn and research a product and buy it because it is best FOR YOU, not just because its a popular product.
Behind the chair I always recommend my clients to invest in products that is best for them. Besides our styling products a lot it all starts with our shower regimen. One of the first questions I always ask clients is, What type of shampoo + conditioner are you using? Referring to earlier, are you using a product that is benefiting you, or are you using a product that smells good and has a lot of fillers and not benefitting you at all. Well here are a few of my favorite products.
This first product I'm going to introduce to you all is my best kept secret to keeping that color looking fresh.
FANOLA NO YELLOW SHAMPOO

If you don't know NOW YOU KNOW and don't forget it! Being a stylist in Hawaii is a challenge. Man oh man, I can't stress enough about using a quality purple shampoo.
Heres a little breakdown if you are a stylist reading this and considering making the move to Hawaii to do hair. Almost everyone has black or dark brown hair, which means when you are taking that client blonde, the orange/yellow is real. Wouldn't it be nice if our hair would magically stay nicely toned in between appointments. Well abracadabra you're welcome! The general use instructions is to use this shampoo once a week and allow it to sit for 3-5 minutes. But consult with your stylist because everyones hair is different depending on how light your hair is of how porous it may be. **Here is a side note, this shampoo is primarily a toning shampoo. From experience this shampoo may be drying, which most color safe shampoos are. Pair this shampoo with a moisturizing conditioner.
REDKEN ALL SOFT CONDITIONER

This is a product that I often recommend to my clients who are coloring their hair. It is also great for those who have very frizzy hair or even damaged hair, whether it be chemically damaged or mechanically damaged. This conditioner is on the heavier side, meaning you don't need a lot of it when you use this product, a little goes a long way. Try this product next time you feel like your hair needs a little TLC. This line is also a great everyday shampoo! I would recommend to use this conditioner along with the fanola shampoo.
SAPHIRA MINERAL MUD MASK

I love a good hair mask! I think every girl does am I correct? Well this is one of my favorite hair mask for a multitude of reasons. This hair mask is infused with keratin. Keritan helps to rebuild the structure and integrity of the hair cuticle. It will leave your hair feeling moisturized and silky smooth. Give this product time to sit. Sit back, relax and enjoy.
To make a long story short, invest in yourself. And if you are investing in your hair, you want to invest in quality products right? Well here are three of my favorite hair products. Try it out and let me know how you like it!
